Resources & Charities

In addition to promoting county living, horse programs, and back to nature adventures, there are a variety of worthwhile causes and children’s programs that we want to support. We have included a short list, description, and links to some of the programs that we have personally visited & researched.

The programs listed below are aligned very well with the CharleeHorse “Back to Nature” philosophy and the many benefits we see offering today’s fast paced high pressure electronic generation kids who, according to Richard Louv in his book Last Child In The Woods are suffering from Nature – Deficit Disorder. It is all part of our efforts to bring a meaningful outdoor education experience to generations of kids who might never have an opportunity to reconnect to the natural wonder and beauty of the outdoors.

We hope to add to the list with horse rescue programs and other worthwhile charities that focus on country living, horsemanship, and outdoor activities for kids and families.  Please contact us with any suggestions you might have for exceptional programs.

Sanborn Western Camps and Colorado Outdoor Education - http://www.sanbornwesterncamps.com/ One of the best outdoor education programs in the country. We are deeply indebted to Jane Sanborn for her on-going commitment to ACA (American Camp Association) and her generous hospitality in showing us the program they have. Their curriculum is a foundation for our program development

Rawhide Ranchwww.rawhideranch.com Grateful acknowledgment to Tom and Val Ewan who as co-directors of Rawhide ranch have put together one of the most unique Old West Equine experiences offered anywhere. This is the ultimate in authentic western town living and a model for our future programs

Reins – www.reinsprogram.org Contact Debbie Shinner executive director. This is one of hundreds of NARHA www.narha.org nationally certified programs for handicapped individuals. The work they do is nothing short of amazing. A truly win win situation of kids, volunteers, families and the community. Thank you Debbie for your help and the fine work you do. Located in Fallbrook, Ca. They rely very heavily on donations to support their program.

NAHRA http://narha.org/WhoIsNARHA/About.asp - is a national organization that promotes therapeutic riding programs throughout the United States with more than 800 certified therapeutic riding centers around the country. Take time to go to their web site and read about the many programs that are changing lives for those most in need. The power of horses and people to change lives is amazing. CharleeHorse works at a local program, called Reins, in our Home town of Fallbrook, California.

CHA http://www.cha-ahse.org/ The Certified Horsemanship Association is the largest Certifying organization in the country and performs invaluble services for maintaining the highest standards of education in safety, horse training and care, riding lessons, and teacher training. Their mission statement: To promote excellence in safety and education for the benefit of the entire horse industry. This is accomplished by certifying instructors, accrediting equine facilities and publishing educational resources. What a wonderful resource for any of your equine related educational needs.

Wyland foundation – www.wylandfoundation.com The Wyland foundation combines fine art, education, and environmental awareness to make a difference for all of us especially the future generations of children who must learn to be good stewards of all our natural resources. This organization is a model of responsible commitment to giving back to communities. We would like to see similar work in the equine community and are working toward that goal. I have had the opportunity to Meet Wyland and see him work in person. His talent is truly amazing.

Yosemite Sierra Christian Camp – www.yssc.com Here is a camp that has made a science out of complimenting kids and giving them daily positive feedback. They are another ACA (American Camp Association) model of excellence and offer inspirational life experiences for children in the beautiful Yosemite Sierra mountain area of California. Christian camping at it’s best.

"Back to Nature Movement" www.richardlouv.com http://www.childrenandnature.org/ Richard Louv staff writer for the Union Tribune in San Diego, Ca. has started a powerful "Back to Nature Movement" for Children through his ground breaking book "Last Child in the Woods" In it he builds a strong scientific argument that our modern day kids are suffering from "Nature Deficit Disorder" or a lack of connection with nature. CharleeHorse is traveling around visiting some of the most beautiful wild natural places in the country, but you can also bring a piece of the natural world right to your own neighborhood or even your own back yard. Let Richard show you how.
